Acres for Life provides Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) services for our military men, women, and their families. This equine assisted approach offers ‘healing from the inside out’. The men and women of our armed forces are trained to be strong, not ask for help and to disconnect from emotions in order to carry out their combat duties. EAP provides access to healing without needing to talk about what they have experienced because quite frankly for many there are not words for the what they have seen, done, and experienced. In addition, EAP offers an approach that is one of doing, not sitting but working along side strong, powerful, non verbal, relational beings; for our military men and women this resonates with them. It’s a way of accessing the help they know they need and want without the stigma of traditional therapy.
Our work makes it possible for our returning men and women to bridge that gap from combat veteran to civilian and as civilians to regain those skills to productively contribute to the workforce, rejoin their families, and further their education.
The Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) also has many wonderful military specific resources.
